The German Constitution

Article 17Every state must have the constitution of a free state. State parliament must be elected in a general, equal, immediate and secret ballot, in which all Reich German men and women participate, according to the principles of representative election. The state government requires the confidence of state parliament. The principles for the election of state parliament also apply for local elections. State law may determine if those who lived in the community for one year or less may participate in the election or not. This is referring to how the German run their elections for state to state.They are allowing everyone who is a eligible citizen to participate in voting. I pick this because it gives people the right to participate in their  government activities which makes it better for their community as well as society as a whole

Article 123All Germans have the right to assemble peacefully and unarmed; such assemblies do not require any prior notification or special permit. A Reich law can require prior notification for assemblies taking place in the open, and it can, in case of imminent danger for public security, stipulate that such assemblies in the open may be prohibited. They are referring to protest and how people can rally for different purposes that will benefit them in society. If you are under the Reich law you must get a permit to have a demonstration or protest because it may cause danger to people in public society. You also have to make sure that the area is available for any event because it will not allow any activities in certain public areas. I choose this right because it allow people to express themselves if they feel something is wrong and they want to express it through public areas. This will make everyone aware of the issue at hand. This will make the society more aware of what the government is doing.

The Midterm

3) Explain the various stages of development that Siddhartha goes through. How effective is Siddhartha's philosophy of detachment as a response to nihilism?

#3 Siddhartha goes through a development of knowing himself. "Your soul is the whole world", was written that man in his sleep, in deep sleep, would meet with his innermost part and would reside in the Atman." He goes through stages between each person who is meaningful in his life. He goes through the mental development by telling his parent he needs more knowledge within."Siddhartha, was not a source of joy for himself, he found no delight in himself". He goes through it physically because he wanted to become one with himself."The ablutions were good, but they were water, they did not wash off the sin, they did not heal the spirits thirst, they did not relieve the fear in his heart". Once he goes finds what makes him content, their he was alone with nothing to make him lose focus. He relates to nihilism because he had to step out of traditional ways and start fresh. He started his own journey alone to find out what steps he must go through as a new era for his generation of wise men to come.

Once Siddhartha can see clearly, he  would now be the person he can feel content with as a whole. His philosophy relates to nihilism because his father and other wisemen teachings were meaningless to him. It did not fulfill the meaning of life for him. His father wanted him to do it in a traditional way that it would give him meaning. But the traditional ways for him did not fully give him the knowledge he was looking for in life. Siddhartha had to do his own path to where he can get fulfillment from expressing himself as a wise man of his time. 

4) Explain the statement, "boredom is nothing other than the dissolution of pain in time", (Jünger p. 13) and its relationship to nihilism

This statement is referring to pain as a feeling you have in different times in your life, When you feel pain it goes a way a little at a time,but you will eventually get over the pain. It takes time for you to go through stages where you are bores because you want to forget about the pain and be in your own state of mind away from it all. This relates to nihilism because the boredom has no meaning or fulfillment from the pain you want to get away from.  Once you have pain in your heart, it may still linger on when you have moments of joy.As time goes on you will get bored with the pain you feel, and you will go on to have times of joy that will help you forget.


When you have something in your life that gives you pain, to get over it you must give it less meaning in your life so it does not cause you hurt anymore. The relationship between Nihilism and the statement want to go on to something with a meaning of your own. You want the pain you are going through to leave so it will have no meaning in your life anymore. Once the meaning of what you felt goes away, that is because you got bored of going though the pain and have moved on mentally with a different view of your feelings.How you feel about what happen that  gave you that void in your heart will go away with time.

Passage:Photography

Junger devotes alot of time to talking about the impact of  photography on increasing our awareness (and hence our control) of the human body:

The photograph stands outside of the zone of sensitivity. It has a telescopic quality; one can tell that the event photographed is seen by insensitive and invulnerable eye. It records the bullet in mid-flight just as easy as it captures a man at the moment an explosion tears him apart. This is our own peculiar way of seeing, and photography is nothing other than an instrument of our own peculiar nature.(p39)

I chose this passage because it relates to all the pieces of art we have seen, it is capturing a moment of their emotions and expressionism as a picture.The passage is saying that when someone takes a picture or creates one, it is from which they see it. When we studied the pieces of art, it was from expressionism that they built their art work from.

Artist create pictures from their own experience from life and how they were effected. They wanted to created something that expressed how they felt when they saw certain events take place in their lives. For example, Dada Ottis painting were of his experience in the war. His paintings were of men at combat and they looked disfigured, while in battle. This made a statement that the men in war were damaged from what they have been through during the war. He was very detailed on the body disfigurement, which was insensitive to the viewers, but that's what his saw through his eyes as a  person.

Movies of Expressionism

In the two movies, the following is what they have in common:

1.Both of the main characters in each movie are well educated men, who hold a professional role in society that people admire.
2. The scenery for both films are in places that are for entertainment, where people go for the irrational. Something that society is against as a whole but it is so different or interesting that you can help but get into it.
3.They both are looking for something that is unusual, it's comparing rational to irrational behavior in society. They want to see how people react to their findings and will it give them the result they want during their research.For example Dr. Caligari wanted to use a mental patient to see if he could control him under a spell to do thing that shouldn't be done in society, also behavior that was sought out as bad in society.While Rath wanted to visit lola to see what she did in her atmosphere that made people so interested in her style, he wanted to be there .

All of these symbols from these two movies represent expressionism due to the fact that they are looking outside of the box. In both movies the characters are looking for someone and something that is irrational. They want to explore these finding so that they can breakdown what it means and why it came about.
When these characters do work through expressionism its  to make u explore your thoughts and what is the goal of the creator

What interest me in this class

What I find interesting in this class is the art work and how it is interpreted in a different light. I like that in art you can make the image how you see it expressed through your own eyes. When you look at art and the way the artist express his feeling or understanding of what this image mean to them. Art is like looking at the artist soul because they are giving you their most inner thoughts and emotions.

Meaning of Passage

Slowly blossomed, slowly ripened in Siddhartha the realisation, the knowledge, what wisdom actually was, what the goal of his long search was. It was nothing but a readiness of the soul, an ability, a secret art, to think every moment, while living his life, the thought of oneness, to be able to feel and inhale the oneness. Slowly this blossomed in him, was shining back at him from Vasudeva's old, childlike face: harmony, knowledge of the eternal perfection of the world, smiling, onenessledge, what wisdom actually was, what the goal 


This passage means that a individual is trying to find themselve. This is when a individual wants to look within themselves and find what makes them want to live and strive to do more. It gives someone meaning in their life, so they can have purpose of why they are here on earth. Before someone leave this earth they want to know if they made a difference or an impact on the earth while they were here.


I pick this passage because it had a deep meaning of why someone would go on journeys to find their meaning in life. Everyone has to search to find themselves and know who they are as a person. Every individual has their own journey or path they must follow to bring themself happiness.
