Dada: Otto Dix

Otto Dix  was born December  on 2, 1891 to Franz and Pauline Dix. He inherited his fathers character also his blue eyes  along his mothers interest for music plus poetry. Otto early  training began in 1909 at Dresden Academy of Fine Art,the first time he showed his talent of drawing was at the age of 10 years old. Otto also modeled for a painter who influenced him to become a painter himself. He was influenced by expressionism and Dada for the artistic drawings of his paintings. The trends of Italy  as well as France for more realistic imagery were also shown in his drawing. When Otto got older he volunteered for World War, which made a huge impact on his painting. He also did controversial social themes, but later was drawn to christian and landscape influences

Title of 1st painting: THE WAR (1929-32)
This painting is expressing how he viewed his experience in the war. It shows the soldiers on the battlefield and all the trauma or tragedies that was going on during World War I.This art express the conflict that the soldiers encountered on and off the battlefield.

Title of 2nd painting: THE SKAT PLAYERS(1920)
This piece of Art is part of Dada and Cubist influence upon Otto work that he created. This picture shows the soldiers after the war and how the were injured or disfigured, but still were able to play cards for there leisure or enjoyment.

Title of 3rd painting: UNKOWN
This painting is of the women Otto seen during his time in the War. It also shows how men pictured these women of this time and era. The women are probably women of leisure time and entertained men of war.

Overall I like how he expressed himself in his work. I was also interested in what he used as his subjects, he would do controversial social aspects that made people think outside the box. He wanted the public to  address the problems at hand so that they can start to resolve the problems or just keep it from being out in the open for all society .

  1. Also, in the third painting, it looks like the women are looking for the men for pleasure, basically selling themselves off to the older men or those of higher rank.

  2. Hey a few things I would like to point out to you. Yes you are right about the first art but take a look at the picture it seems like the battle took place over night and they lost as you can see as the sun is rising. Art # 2 look at the bigger picture, these men were mutilated and part of a society that they were not allowed to talk or expressed themselves about what was taking place around them during the war.
